On Saturday, 5 February 2022 our Rescue One was deployed at 1130 hrs to attend a vessel with four persons on board. The vessel had lost steering and was located 9 miles west of Jurien. Well done to Wayne (Skipper), Chrissy and Graham Latter. It was a beautiful day to be on the water and an awesome opportunity to enjoy the ocean and being part of our wonderful team of volunteers!!
Half way through the tow in there was a report of a jet ski being unattended for several hours at one of our Islands. Our Radio Operator, Allan Franke, advised the Water Police and the owners were contacted and retrieved their jet ski.
A VHF (Short Range) Radio Operator’s Course will be held at the Marine Rescue Tower Building during February. If you would like to attend the training please register your interest by contacting the Tower on telephone 9652 1950.
Do you need a Recreational Skippers’ Ticket? Neil, who is a RST provider, is happy to travel to Jurien to provide this training Please contact Neil direct on mobile 0413 735 726.
Attention all Boaties:
Please check your VHF Radio to ensure that you are operating on 25 Watts and not 1 Watt. You will need to press the HI/LO button on your handset to adjust. 25 Watts provides a much better reception for broadcasting.
A message from our Radio Operators: Could all Boaties please log on and log off slowly and clearly as we need to write the information in our log book. The details we require are your call sign, number of people on board (adults and children), the amount of fuel, your destination and the estimated time of return (ETR). When logging off, please state your call sign and that you are safely back and wish to log off. The radio operator will acknowledge your log on and off by repeating the information back to you. If you do not receive this acknowledgement then please repeat your message again.
