Green Island Incident and Jurien Bay Community Markets

At 0330 hours on Sunday, 5 March 2023 Rescue 1 (“Crikey”) was deployed with Wayne Harston, Chrissy Heu, Graham Latter and Dale Moir onboard to attend a 19-metre vessel stranded on a reef south of Green Island which is near Grey. As the vessel was taking in water, the skipper and crew had two tenders and all safety equipment on stand-by. Reaching Cervantes, Rescue 1 was stood down as the owner of the marooned vessel was sourcing a salvage vessel and our assistance was no longer required. A big thank you to our radio operator, Sharon Stiles, and to Wayne, Chrissy, Graham and Dale.

Later that morning our Group participated in the Jurien Bay Community Markets at Fauntleroy Park held from 0800 to 1200 hours with the early crew setting up an hour (or more) earlier and, of course, packing up afterwards. Our stall was well patronised with lots of locals and visitors meeting and chatting with our group members who were happy to answer any enquiries regarding what we do, boat memberships, how to join as a volunteer, logging on and off, etc. Boating and safety information pamphlets were also available. Thank you to everyone – locals and visitors - for calling in, purchasing raffle tickets and also for donating to our Group’s fundraising. A HUGE THANK YOU to Raelene Newnham, Lawrence Newnham, Connie Holder, Julie Triffitt, Wayne Harston, Robin Randall and Chrissy Heu. Thank you also to all the other stallholders and the Jurien Bay Progress Association Inc. for making the markets such a great event. Awesome effort everyone!
