The July school holidays are upon us and there will be an influx of visitors into our beautiful area along the Turquoise Coast. If you are a visiting boatie, call down to the Marine Rescue Tower, 34 Breakwater Drive, (past the Marina car park at the end of the road) and lodge your boating details with us by completing a Visiting Boat Form. One of our friendly radio operators will be able to assist you. There is no fee to join as a Visiting Boatie and it is FREE to log on and off with us.
When logging on, all we need to know is:
your call sign,
number of people on board,
how much fuel you have,
your destination,
your estimated time of return,
a mobile number that you are taking with you,
your boat Marine and Harbour number,
trailer and/or vehicle registration number,
Your launching site (if it is not Jurien Bay Marina).
Alternatively, you can visit our website: www.jurienmarinerescue.com.au and complete the necessary form. Select “Boaties” from the menu, then “Visiting Boat Form” from the quick links panel (right hand side) and complete your details. A photo of your boat can also be included to provide easy identification. When completed don’t forget to hit “Submit” at the bottom of the screen.
Why log on with us?
We’ve heard a lot of reasons why not to log on:
Nothing will happen to me!
I know these waters!
I can swim!
I have a lifejacket!
I have an EPIRB!
I’ve told my wife / partner / neighbour!
I’ve been doing this for years!
It’s your safety we’re concerned about!!
Let us tell you some of the reasons why you should LOG ON:
Logging on enables us to quickly locate you, as we will have your details and destination, should a rescue be necessary.
We cover the area from Grey to Greenhead, including Cervantes, Sandy Cape, in fact any place within this area where a boat can be launched.
Our Radio Operators monitor the radios in four or five hour shifts and love nothing better than logging on boaties – it keeps them interested in their task and gives them a sense of purpose. The busier they are the happier they are!! It’s frustrating when they see 30 boats leaving the Marina with only five logging on.
Our telephone – 9652 1950 – is monitored 24 hours a day.
Extending your estimated return time or changing fishing spots:
If you are having a great day on the sea and want to change your time of return or move to another location, please let us know. It is a good idea to set your time of return as a reminder in your mobile phone, so that you don’t become “an overdue boatie”. Your new information will be logged and this will assist us immensely if there is a need to rescue you.
Attention All Boaties:
Please check your VHF Radio to ensure that you are operating on 25 Watts and not 1 Watt so that we can hear you properly. You will need to press the HI/LO button on your handset to adjust. 25 Watts provides a much better reception for broadcasting.
